Hayley Savage
Hayley was offered a place at the Royal Academy of Music, London and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, to study classical guitar and piano. She chose the RWCMD, where she studied with John Mills, twice winning the RWCMD Guitar Prize. Since graduating in 1996 Hayley has established a dual career in performance and composition.
She has given solo guitar recitals throughout England and Wales and her career has taken her to Europe and Canada . She has performed in London 's Wigmore Hall and the South Bank. Hayley regularly performs in duos with violin or flute and with chamber/symphony orchestras in performances of her own works, or other concerti.
In 1999, Hayley won The Worshipful Company of Musicians' Ivor Mairants Guitar Award and was subsequently interviewed on BBC Radio 3. She has given numerous live performances on radio and television. She was a recitalist and tutor at The Bath International Guitar Festival 2000 and returned there in 2004 as a recitalist and adjudicator for the Admira Young Classical Guitarist of the Year Competition. Hayley is a respected teacher of guitar, piano and cello.
Also a member of the Appassionata Guitar Trio, in 2004 Hayley returned with them to BBC Radio 3 to perform a live performance on ‘In Tune'. Their CD (BGS CD 111) is now available in record stores and includes new works written for them by world-renowned composers.
Hayley has had 18 premieres of her own compositions, mainly commissions. These have ranged from concerto and symphonic music to choral music. Her concerto commissioned by John Mills in 1995, ‘English Fantasia for Guitar and String Orchestra', has now received 9 performances in England, Europe and Canada, where it was broadcast in 2002 on CBC Radio, with soloist John Mills and the Newfoundland Sinfonia.
Hayley has collaborated with Queen's Gold Medal Poet, U. A. Fanthorpe and poet Adam Horowitz in writing music for their poetry. She has composed the new anthem for the Wessex Society, setting words by poet Devina Symes to her music.
In 2005, Hayley was commissioned to compose and premiere her own Piano Concerto. This work was rapturously received and is already scheduled for other performances.
She has four publishing contracts: Cascade Music, Corda Music, Lathkill Music and Daminus Ed. and has recently gained sponsorship from Duck, Son & Pinker .
Hayley is now showcasing a guitar by the guitar maker Mr. John Ainsworth, Chorley (01275 265700) very kindly loaned to her.
